Is it because I recently moved into a place I painted gray? Is something in the air, stylistically? I feel like I am cheating on my "white" lover. Today I went to the Farmer's Market and bought some dahlias and some fruit. The colors are too crazy right now---so orange and yellow and red. The flowers look perfect in my new thrift-store black vase (from the aisles of a place in Orlando, Florida). The fruit looks luscious against the black and gray bowls.
Of course the fruit was still pretty inside the plastic bag from the market.
I almost always shoot against a black / dark background (though my photographs aren't in nearly the same ballpark as yours). Maybe it's because it reminds me of old still-life paintings so much? - I can never pin down why I love it so.
ReplyDeleteI love the black/grey background. Looks both dramatic and calm. And yes, the fruit is very pretty in the bag too. A different expression.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the first comment...the first picture definitely reminds of a dutch still life only I like your shot better. I love black and grey. It might have been a jcrew catalogue but it had that same feel colorwise..it made me want to paint my walls black/grey too!
